I followed the manual to the last character, but DNN still won't work for me.

When i type in http://localhost/DotNetNuke it gives the "This error (HTTP 403 Forbidden) means that Internet Explorer was able to connect to the website, but it does not have permission to view the webpage." error ... i've set all the permissions i needed to (according to the manual). Though if i run http://localhost/DotNetNuke/Install/Install.aspx?mode=Install it gives me the

Failed to access IIS metabase.

Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.

Exception Details: System.Web.Hosting.HostingEnvironmentException: Failed to access IIS metabase.

The process account used to run ASP.NET must have read access to the IIS metabase (e.g. IIS://servername/W3SVC). For information on modifying metabase permissions, please see http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=267904.

So seriously ... does anyone have any ideas what could be causing this?

Thanks in advance!

Ziga

make sure, you have added default.aspx in the documents section of IIS web site configuration

Thanks for the quick reply!

I have added the default.aspx in the documents section, but i still get the "failed to access IIS metabase" error. I honestly wouldn't know what's the problem with it.

I had the very same problem and found this on another forum.  Try this, it solved my problem:

You will need to uninstall and re-install ASP.NET on your machine.

Open a command prompt and move to the following directory.

C:\Windows\Microsoft.net\framework\v2.0.50727

Then type the following command to uninstall

aspnet_regiis.exe -u

Then type the following command to re-install

aspnet_regiis.exe -i

You should now be set to go
