Hello,

I have been working in DNN 3.2.2. What I want to do is intsall the same version on a different web host and restore the database from a backup of my previous installation database. However, the problem is that I have lost all the previous DNN files such as web.config.

I know how to install DNN but I'm not sure if it is possible to restore the database from the backup....

The minimum thing that I'd like to do is copy over the registered users from my previous installation to the new installation.

I hope someone can help me with this...

Many thanks....

John

you can recreate your site from the database, but

  • you need to have the installation package (PA) for all modules, that have been previously installed in the correct version). You find the necessary information in the database, table desktop modules.
  • you will lose all portal files (visible in Admin :: File Manager), that are usually stored in the file system and not in the database)
  • check the database for the correct values of DatabaseOwner (usually "dbo") and an eventually string preceding all dnn table names (called objectqualifier, omit the "_" at the end)

I suggest to create the web site first with all modules and afterwards restore the database and adopt values for connectionString, objectQualifier and databaseOwner. You will need to reset all passwords, to get access as host follow these instructions.

Good Luck!
