I am having a similar problem.  Fresh install of 4.4 which went with no problems.  When I login with either the 'admin' or 'host' ID, I don't receive an error message but still have 'Login' link instead of 'Logout'.  Also, none of the administrator modules appear.  'admin' or 'host' records are in the 'Users' table.

From the login, I do get error messages if I use the wrong message.  I was also able to change the password for 'admin' by setting the 'Users.UpdatePassword' to '1'.

Is there something in the configuration that is not allowing it to display the administrator modules like are displayed on demo.dotnetnuke.com

THANKS

It sounds like you have something blocking the authentication cookie.

Look in your cookies for one from the site you are trying to log into. If it is there, go ahead and delete it to start over. Then watch to see if it is created again.

The issue you describe happens with some personal firewalls that block cookies (like ZoneAlarm).
