It seems to work after compression has been disabled (in Host settings) for a period.. like some sort of caching issue.

The question now is: Is this a legitimate bug that is going to be looked at?

If it is a bug and is going to be looked at, then I'll stay with 4.4.1 and just leave compression off for now. Otherwise I'll have to think of something else.

I have a simple site, just started to populate with a fresh 4.4.0 install.  I upgraded to 4.4.1 and now experience the same PostBack problem.

I've commented out the compression section in web.config, I've disabled compression (in Host settings), I've cleared my cache and restarted application several times.  I've now waited for 20 minutes and still no go.  I'll check things again tomorrow and post back.

Ok, the trick to getting core comment these days is to post it as a bug in Gemini. The same bug is reported elsewhere there as "Creating new role group error".

From what I can tell, it's go to be reviewed, so at least that means I won't need to revert to 440.

so.. being a sucker for punishment I reverted back to 440 to make another attempt using some info gleaned from the bug report.

I disabled compression in 440, even tho it worked fine there. For good measure I also set caching to moderate (was on heavy), Authenticated Cacheability to Server and Nocache, and Method to Memory because of some issues I've been reading in other threads. I had the whitespace filter disabled anyway.

Then I ran through the upgrade to 441.. and voila... now I can enable compression and carry out alterations to page settings without the error.

So.. if anyone else is keen on testing this, just upgrade again, but disable compression beforehand. I plan on doing this every time now.
