I am new to DNN, this is my first portal and all I can say, is WoW, really fantasic work!
I have come up on a dead end trying to solve a problem with Announcements and banners. I am using the default DNN template on a new 4.4.1 installation. After installing the Announcements module, a default banner appeared at the top of the home page as a “banner.gif” graphic which says “Sample Banner, Use the Vendors module to manage site Banners”. The banner appears just right of the site logo above the main menu bar. I have not been able to find anything on host or site setting that removes the banner. I tried uninstalling the Announcements and Banners modules but that didn’t work and instead complicated the problem because Announcements and Banner were no longer re-installable from the Host Module Definitions.

Fortunately I made a backup copy of the database before uninstalling the modules, so restoring the DB to it's former state  solved the second problem. But I still have the default banner at the top of the page. Any suggestion would be welcome; I would like to avoid creating a new home page, so if I can loose that one pesky data record that is causing the problem I will be one happy camper! Thanks in advance...

If you want to just turn off the banner capability you can do that through:

Admin > Site Settings > Advanced Settings > Other Settings > Banner Advertising: None radio button.

I had to do this because the banner module kept rotating banners after the vendor was deleted and their banners deleted from the file manager. It continued to try and show the banner with the default red X in the corner.

If you have any idea on how to clear the banners from continuing to try to show please let me know.

Thanks,

That did the trick, thanks.
