I am just wondering if there is an easy way to export or create a backup of a site and install it on another dnn  instance. mainly the pages and content is all i want....

Look in the community modules section... I don't remember the name off the top of my head, but there is a backup/restore module that will do just this.

If you are looking to move a copy of the entire dnn install you can easily do it by copying the directory, and making a copy of the .mdf database file. 

If you are looking to copy one specific portal, that is when you will want to look into 3rd party tools.

If you want to copy just one portal, you can do just like Mitchel says, but when you get the portal moved, you may want to go through and delete the other portals from the newly setup instance, as you'll have copied the information for all portals. With your DNS just point the one you want to copy to the new instance, and leave the others pointing at the old instance.

thanks but in the time i would have dont this i exported the content and recreated the structure of the portal (with some changes) in a short amount of time ;)
