Can someone please point me toward a tutorial or info on the settings for the SQL database and transaction logs to help prevent problems with the size of the db and logs? I know that there are several options like the scheduled tasks, converting the db to simple mode, truncating the logs, etc.; but I am not an expert and need a refresher or reference to configure these options for new sites. I especially need a reference for the SQL queries.

I know the info is out there, I know about the options from reading about them. But I've ran searches in these forums till I am completely frustrated. I mostly get nothing found! But that is another topic.

So NONE of the DNN books or developers have a DB primer?

There are a number of good MS SQL books, websites and groups/mailing lists. Managing a DB is important, but not what you'll find much covered here.

Fortunately, there are many easily available resources, so you will be able to find the information you want without difficulty.

Have a look at the various MS Press books, or the books surrounding the MCTS: SQL Server 2005 certification.  I have gone through both of those methods and they have helped.  I don't have the titles of the books as I am currently at work, but I can get them for you later if you are looking.

The log settings really depend on how important your data is.  If you can handle a little dataloss in the case of an error, you can use the simple logging option, this will create a much smaller log file, but it doesn't allow for as precise restores.  However, there are many other options to consider so I highly reccomend getting a few SQL Server books and reading up on it, or contacting someone outside of here that you can discuss items in a more detailed fashion.

Feel free to contact me with any questions.
