Hi,

Is it true that if a certain user role has edit permissions on a certain page, this role automatically  inherits edit permissions to all module on that page, despite the fact that inherit page permissions is turned off and the specific role has no edit permissions in the module permissions settings?

Thanks in advance,

Rudgr

This should definetly not be true.

Did you try this and got it like you explain, or you think that it is like this?

Thanks,

Hi Vladan,

I've noticed this behaviour in multiple DNN 4.4.1 installations (both clean installs and 4.3.7 > 4.4.0 > 4.4.1 upgrades). I'm not sure whether this happened on 4.3.7 or 4.4.0 as well.
  • I log in as host and give page edit permissions to "registered users"
  • I then add a new Text/HTML module to the page and then deselect inherit view permissions and give module view persmission to "all users".
  • I then logout as host and login as user (non admin).
  • When I navigate to the page I have the complete module menu (edit text,...,settings!,...)
  • I also tried restoring the inherit view permissions for the module (only admin has edit persmissions, default).
  • When I then re-login as user I still get the module expanding menu (edit text,...,settings!,...)
Maybe I'm doing something completely wrong, but it sure looks like something isn't right here. I can even change the module settings as a user without having module edit permissions.

Thanks,

Rudgr

AFAIK if you give a user edit rights to a page, that gives him admin rights to the page, which means he can add child pages, add modules, change module settings etc. To DNN such a user is an admin user for that page
