Has anyone seen issues with access to the cache when running DNN against a remote share?

I'm using 4.4.1 on IIS6. The problem arises in several places;

1. The scheduled task to purge the cache is not running. The history says "purging cache task failed"

2. Installing modules. When I install a ListX package or module I see this error:

  Failure:
  • System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Access to the path '\\tpa1-ad-001\CPT01\Portals\_default\Cache\UG9ydGFsRGljdGlvbmFyeQ==.resources' is denied. at System.IO.__Error.WinIOError(Int32 errorCode, String maybeFullPath) at System.IO.File.Delete(String path) at DotNetNuke.Services.Cache.FileBasedCachingProvider.FBCachingProvider.Remove(String CacheKey) at DotNetNuke.Services.Cache.FileBasedCachingProvider.FBCachingProvider.Insert(String CacheKey, Object objObject, Boolean PersistAppRestart) at DotNetNuke.Entities.Portals.PortalController.GetPortalDictionary() at DotNetNuke.Entities.Tabs.TabController.GetTab(Int32 TabId, Int32 PortalId, Boolean ignoreCache) at DotNetNuke.Security.Permissions.TabPermissionController.AddTabPermission(TabPermissionInfo objTabPermission) at DotNetNuke.Entities.Tabs.TabController.AddTab(TabInfo objTab, Boolean AddAllTabsModules) at DotNetNuke.Entities.Tabs.TabController.AddTab(TabInfo objTab) at Bi4ce.Modules.xList.Packaging.Delivery.Tab_Install(PackageItem Item)
  • I know the permissions are working because the site is functional. The app is able to write to the cache. I have a domain user that has permission to the share and the connect permissions use that in IIS. I also have Network Service in the permissions with Modify permissions.

    Any ideas of how to solve this problem?

    I haven't had a reply to this because I guess most people are not running a web farm? Technically, can I set up a script to delete old cache files manually? Would there be a problem with doing this?

    A few comments, you should make sure that the ASP.NET account has full permissions to the location to ensure that it can create/edit/delete files.

    I do not believe there would be a problem if you deleted the files from the cache manually, but I am not 100% sure if there are any issues might come up.

    I am not sure how to give the asp.net account full permission. That is a local account on the webserver, doesn't exist on the domain. I did give the webserver machine account full permission to the UNC share, that doesn't seem to help the problem, the cache files are piling up.
