The instruction in DNN help reads "

Child Portals are sub portals of your Hosting Provider account. Child portals are accessed by entering the URL address which includes a Parent domain name followed by the portals name (i.e. www.dotnetnuke.com/directory). An example of a valid Child Portal Name is www.dotnetnuke/portalname. A Child Portal can be converted into a Parent Portal at any time by adding a Portal Alias entry."

I have created my child portal www.myparentsite.com/childportal  and then I have got a domain name for it, I got it hosted on my hosting and on my child portal I created alias www.mynewdomain.com... but somehow it did not connect to each other, I contacted my support about this but I guess they don't really know much about DNN they just forwarded www.mynewdomain.com to www.myparentsite.com/childportal and everytime i request www.mynewdomain.com I get redirected to http://www.myparentsite.com/Default.aspx?alias=www.myparentsite.com/childportal  this is not what I wanted, is there any posibility to make it look like a separate domain without showing that is my parent site's child portal?

thank you !!!

I just did this for my http://portal.iowacomputergurus.com/Mitchel site which has transfered over to http://www.mitchelsellers.com.  I directed my hosting provider to set the DNS entry for mitchelsellers.com to point to the exact same location as portal.iowacomputergurus.com.  IE both pointing to the root.  I then added an alias to my portal for www.mitchelsellers.com and it is working just fine!

so if I am not wrong http://www.mitchelsellers.com is not listed at your hosting as hosted domain but rather domain alias for portal.iowacomputergurus.com and then DNN takes care of the correct pointing?
