I installed the dnn 4.4.1 on windows server 2003 enterprise edition successfully.

The website is accessible by using the address "http://localhost/dnn441/default.aspx".

But I can't access it from any other computer.

The required permissions had been set.

The full control permissions was been set to everyone user group on the website folder and also applyed to the sub folders and files.

I appreciate you view this post, please help me work it out!

I just want a test installation of DNN to see whether or not it will fulfil our needs, and
I have just had exactly the same experience.

I was remotely logged into the server, which I had configured ready to install DNN, and hence when I logged on I installed it locally on the server, which is what I would expect to have to do. The moment I tried to log into it from my desktop, I get redirections to localhost that simply don't work!

Is there any way to make the installation work?

Brian

In order to access it from other machines you need to add an HTTP Alias in the site admin menu (it is at the bottom). If you have to domain name that will be used go ahead and set it up in IIS as you would normally and point it to the install folder, then go to the site admin menu and add an http alias for that domain name. You should be able to access it then. If you don't have a domain name and you just want to access it temporarily from other machines then add an alias with the machine name just like it is for localhost. Also you need to remove the everyone group permissions. The NETWORK SERVICE is the one you need.

Add an alias in Admin->Site Settings -> HTTP Alias. (like www.yourdomain.com), then you should configure the IIS, Give the rights the the folder where you source is locate (Network Services rights)

If you can't go the the website using the localhost, go directly to the database, and update the table PortalAlias, with your new URL, before insert data in this table, ensure that you know what is the PortalID.

Good luck,

I just worked this one out, following the followup I posted, which isn't up yet.

In terms of intranet use; where you install to a server with \\SERVER as the name, and the DNN Virtual folder  being DNN your alias would be SERVER/DNN, and you'd reference it as http://SERVER/DNN.

Cheers,
Brian.
