Thanks for adding the ability for users to retrieve their password  using the email address they registered with but I'm a bit confused about the feature. The text on the retrieve password screen says its possible to retieve it using your email address "if your portal supports it" but I haven't been able to see any settings on the portal settings page.

Do I have to edit the web.config file to enable this feature?

Is it necessary for all users to have a valid question and answer combination stored in their user profile before they can retrieve their password using their email address?

Its great from the DNN Team.

Yes you are right. You have to change the web.config file to activate the Email and Question and Answer portion of the password reterival.

In the AspNetSqlMembershipProvider section of the web.config change the appropriate attributes of the provider to active the settings you want.

To active the Email only change provider attribute requiresUniqueEmail = true.

To active the Question/Answer question only change provider attribute requiresQuestionAndAnswer= true.

To enable the both you set the both attributes to true.

So if I enable to requiresQuestionAndAnswer (I already require unique email addresses) my users will be able to use either their email address or username to retrieve their password?

Do you know what happens to users who don't have a question and answer already set but try to use their email address to retrieve their password?

How do I force exisitng users to supply their question and answer the next time they log in?
