Under host settings/advanced settings/other settings we have a scheduler mode value.

Currently the default set upon installation is request method. But shouldn't timer method be used as a default as it appears to be more efficient and less impact on users?

Interesting article here:

Originially the scheduler only worked via a seperate thread and used a timer, but we had a number of reports of it not working correctly in certain shared hosts, due to them agressively recycling application pools, so the request method was added and set to the default. If you're controlling your own server, or else are using one of the more expensive shared hosting packages, switching to timer is slightly better in terms of performance

Cheers Cathal!

Would you not agree that this field not be under host setting/performance settings? (rather than host/other settings)

Funilly enough, switch to timer give me loads of application re-starts in any 4.5.0 environment, even localhost.
Not so in the other setting.

thats a bit odd, the timer may add a little overhead of memory, but i wouldn't expect it to cause lots of restarts. Code has been added to the forthcoming 4.5.2 version that will record app unloads and the reason, so perhaps we can work out what the issue is then
