Hello,

I hope that someone can help me.  Today, I messed up my main portal (portal 0) when I tried to install a module while logged in as Admin.   My page at http://www.rightontop.net   will come up, but I am unable to log-in to try and fix it.  Unfornately, I did not make a backup of my latest work. (Recently installed the House Of Nuke Menu, and FCK Editor).  I do, however, have a backup of the new DNN installation available.

I am hoping that someone can tell me which files would have been affected when installing a new container.  Possibly, I can restore them so that I can log-in again so that I do not have to start over.   Thank you in advance.

The page will come up, but will not let me log in.  I can FTP fine, but do not know

It appears that there is something not right with the skin, as there is no rendered contact.

What exactly did you change?  Did you possibly set a login page in the portal settings?  Did you just update to the skin you are using?

Depending on the exact action there are various solutions available.

Hi Mitchel,

Thank you for your fast response.  I am at a loss over here of what to do.  What I did was download the free red leaf skin from dnncreative.com   I then watched the tutorials and added another pane to it at the top.  Skinning seems pretty straightforward to me.  In the process, I was able to log in just fine (did so many times).  I had all by 2 of the validation errors fixed, and was almost done with it.

How I changed the original skin was to modify it in Visual Studio and FTP up the modified web.config, default.aspx, index.html and index.aspx files into portal 0.

Things went wrong when I uploaded a zipped container.  I then got an error on the default page.  After a refresh, it went away, but will not let me login (the link does nothing).

I have 6 other portals set up.  I haven't developed them yet.  I hate to  have to re-install the house menu and FCK Editor again should I start over.

How does one protect against this?  How does one know which files to back-up?   Does anyone make a utility to back DNN up at regular restore points?

Thank you very much :)
George
