Hi all,

When you create a module from scratch how does dotnetnuke store the data? Do I have to create  a table in the databse or does dotnetnuke generate the code to create the tables?

Many thanks,

Skips

If you need to specifically use the database you must provide your own script to create the tables, this is done in the sqldataprovider files.

What I meant was:

I need to create a module which would allow users to book car park spaces: Do I need to create the table first in the dotnetnuke database (Database.mdf) and then upload the moduels on dotnetnuke? I am new to this and I relly dont know how it works.

How does the annoucment module work for instance? or how do other modules work? which DDN standard modules dont need to store data in the databse? etc.

Many thanks for your support.

No problem, let me explain a bit more.

You do not need to create the tables first, however when you are buidling your module you will create a 00.00.00.SwlDataProvider file.  (Where 00.00.00 is your module version)  In this file you will put all of your database creation scripts that are needed for your module (tables, procedures, etc).  Then you include this in your .dnn file and the zip package that you install.  WHen DNN installs the module it will copy the files, then it will execute each of the .SqlDataProvider files in the proper version order!
