Hello,

Two questions:

We are trying to figure out what the search engine indexes because when do searches for text that is in tabs using the TEXT/HTML  sometimes we do not get any hits.  Other text that is on the same page will come up in the hit list.  For instance one page has the text SAP several times.  When we search for SAP, we do not get any results.  Why is this?

Second, when we do a search and no results are found, the page does not give a message that no results were found.  How do we configure and/or display a message like that?

Thanks

Do you have the schedule for the search engine running?  At default it should run every 30 minutes, take a look at the history to look for any errors. (You can find it in the host section)

Make sure you have set the minimum word length to 3 letters - Host > Search Admin

Also, the search is not very good. It will find "mess" but not as part of another word such as "message".

There's a lot of good info on DNN search by Ecktwo here http://www.innovatasites.com/ecktwo/tabid/1263/Default.aspx

Also, I don;t know if there's a way to add a no-result message that only shows when there is no result, but you can do what I always do:

Go to Admin, Pages, select Search Results and click the Magnifying Glass icon

Add a Text/HTML module to the page and write something useful....

"Tips on using Search: (do this, do that)"
"If you are unable to find the results you require, please contact us (here) and we will try and help."

If you split that into two modules and place the second message a the bottom of the page then people will not normally notice it until they get no results.

Regards,
Rob

The how-to instruction is there.  You can customize your own message.
