Sorry for the noob question.

I used the starter kit and VWD to install DNN 4.51.  How do I add the projects like the forums, file repository or blog modules to that install?

How can I be sure they work with version 4.51?

Thanks for any responses.

If you want to install them onto that instance of DNN you can install them like any other Private Assembly, through the host/module definition page.

If you're looking to work with those files in Visual Studio 2k5 though you're most likely going to have to convert them to .Net 2.0 and to the app_code folder type of project.

I'm sorry, I'm not a programmer.  What is a Private Assembly?

What are the steps to adding projects?  Here is what I think they might be...

  1. Go to the given project section on the dotnetnuke site and download the files
  2. Unzip the files and put them in some folder for the DNN install I am using on my local box.  What folder should that be?
  3. Use a web browser to login to my local installation of DNN and then use the "host/module definition page" to add the module?

This is my first use of DNN 4.x so I am  a real noob. sorry

to be precise in the language we use, you do not need to add a project (this is done for development only), but you need to install a packaged module (we call a Private Assembly PA). A PA is a zip file, you can install using the built in installer following e.g. this procedure:

  • login as superuser ('host')
  • go to Module Definitions item in Host menu
  • select Install New Module from the modules action menu
  • browse for your file and select upload, save file or install (depending on your DNN version).
  • check the install log for issues. If there are non listed, you can savely select the new module from the dropdown list in the control panel to place it on a page.
