Today, I add a portal alias to a existing portal. I found that the new alias doesn't work.

It looks like

mywebsite.com/portal1 --------old one

mywebsite.com/portal2 ---------new one.

The old one work fine but the new onw doesn't.

I have to go to the DNN root to change the folder "portal1" to "portal2" to make this alias work!!

If I used http://mywebsite.com/Default.aspx?alias=mywebsite.com/portal2, it work also without change the folder's name.

What happened? Doesn't anybody know? Please help me, thank you~~

you need to route the portal address mywebsite.com/portal2 in your IIS configuration as well, e.g. by adding a virtual directory portal2 that points to the same physical location of your DNN installation.

Sorry to drop into this conversation but can you tell me if its still necessary to add a virtual directory that points the my DNN installation if i have the host headers of the other web addresses added in IIS (and DNS records updated). I'm having my own problem getting my DNN install to respond to requestes although not for child portals

Michael,

if you created a web site, you can use a "catch all" IP or assign multiple hostheaders to your site. If you are using a virtual directory, you need to assign a second one, either pointing to the same physical folder or as redirection

Thanks Sebastian,

I set a redirect on the default website to the URL of my DNN website and now all the portal alias's at last point to my DNN site.

Michael
