I know that there are other threads that talk about how to do this but i cant seem to get it to work.

I had a web address http://site415.mysite4now.net/sbarber/slcc which i created DotNetNuke on and it all works fine.

I have now registered a new domain name www.slccup.co.uk and want to point it to this path.

I have added the alias in under the host login but all i get is the "Server Error in '/' Application" error message when i type the new domain name in?

Can any one help - i am a complete newbee so be gentle.

It's been a long time since I've seen a WH4L control panel, but I believe you need to use the domain manager to add the new domain host headed which should be pointed to your directory.
