Our company recently upgraded all users to Internet Explorer 7 and those of us in the Marketing Department are still using IE version 6 because version 7 only diplays HTML coding in the module boxes....the formating and insert picture functions can't be used with IE 7. Any one else having this problem? Solutions?

if you are still using DNN 3.2/4.0 or earlier, these versions contain a version of FreeTextBox, that is not compatible with IE7. I suggest an update to latest DNN version 4.5.1

Is there a way to just upgrade the control (free text box) to a later version without upgrading our entire version of DNN?

I assume it is possible, but I am not sure, if there are changes in the provider interface and the migration is not supported by the core team. You can however switch over to FCKEditor, the free provider shall run with DNN 3.x as well, have a look at the project page here on DotNetnuke.com.
