Hi,
I'm trying to get dotnetnuke working on one of my internal servers.  Its running Server 2003 R2 64 bit and SQL Server 2005.  How do I create/configure a database for dotnetnuke to use?  I noticed a tip somewhere to use enterprise manager, but I don't have that program on this server.

Thanks for the help,

Gary

Enterpris manager comes with your SQL 2005 intall and you just need to install the clien tools. Actually, with SQL 2005 I think it ships with SQL Server Managment Studio which would also be part of the client tools.  I cannot remember wich client tool SQL Server 2005 shipped with, but one or the other should be included on your installation disk (and you should have an option to install the client tools).

Here's the connection string notation from one of my W2K3 R2 servers. Be sure that the MSSQL Server TCP/IP network protocol (-> client tools) is activated.

...
<connectionStrings>
<
add name="SiteSqlServer" connectionString="Server=yourserver;Database=yourdb;uid=youruser;pwd=yourpassword;" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />
</
connectionStrings>
<
appSettings>
<
add key="SiteSqlServer" value="Server=yourserver;Database=yourdb;uid=youruser;pwd=yourpassword;" />

The management tool, that ships with SQL Server 2000 is called Enterprise Manager, the tool shipping with SQL 2005 (Express Advanced) is called SQL Server Management Studio (Express) and can be used to manage SQL Server 2000 as well.

On my blog site http://www.mitchelsellers.com I have a tutorial that walks though the DB setup portion for a DNN installation.  Look for the article on performing a clean DNN installation!
