I saw the banner container which I think is for ads.  I was just curious how one gets an ad.  I'm not real sure how to ask this.  Is there some link i put in the banner container that points to a web service and populates the Banner container?  What about using AdSense?

I don't know how any of it works and thought someone might be able to offer a beginner some tips.  Thank you.

Banner advertising is enabled ( on Site Settings ) from either a Site's list of Vendors or the Host's list of Vendors ( in which case all sites on the installation would use the same banner source ).  When you add a banner module, you just set its behavior.  The banners themselves are retrieved from the banners which are defined on the Vendors records.

Hi,

also for a more general kind of answer to your question, you have to find people or companies that want to advertise on your site.  You then populate the venders pages with their information as decribed by Scott.  So say that a local computer book store wanted to advertise on your site they would give you graphics and other information and you would put that in the vender page and then add the graphics as a banner for that vender.

Google adsense is easier to do by just adding the jscript they give you to a HTML/Text module and adding that where you want it.
