Hi,

My hosting company, http://www.athleticnames.com allows hosting multiple domains on a single hosting plan by creating alias domain for subdirectories. We created a “fury” subdirectory: http://tiptongue.com/fury/, installed there DNN with the idea to alias it as http://www.weaverx.com once we are ok with it.
Now we are ready to move, but portal aliasing mechanism in DNN does not work for us: http://weaverx.com keeps some sort of a circular loop going.
Although http://weaverx.com/logo.gif gets same file as this: http://tiptongue.com/fury/logo.gif
How did we get there? - Well, it was not possible to remove or edit http://tiptongue.com/fury/ (where DNN was originally installed) from the list of portal aliases.
I edited PortalAlias table in the database and replaced tiptongue.com/fury entry with weaverx.com.
I could not find any other place in the database or config files where the original install URL is hardcoded into… What am I missing?
Currently traversing to http://weaverx.com seem to caus a circular redirect.

Thanks,

--Victor

thats a catch-22 ;)

you cannot remove or change the HTTP alias, if you are using that alias to log on. Direct changes to the db are possible though, but they will not be picked up untill you clear the cache or restart the application. In sometimes i even had to recycle the app pool...

Thank you Erik,

Was the DB change correct? Is there any other place that needs to be changed?

Reseting application does not work:

Even opening a fresh IE6 its progress bar keepsgoing upand down, and Firefox displays: "Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete."

Perhaps, somebody could advise where in the code does do the redirect and why was it designd to do this?

Thanks,

--Nik

Nik, all of this also depends on how your hosting company technically redirects full domainnames to subfolders. Do you have any more info about how they are doing this?

Hi Eric,

I tried to get any information from the hoster, but in vain.

I am not sure why DNN needs to do any redirects at all - but, obviously, they keep redirecting... DNN to weaverex.com, and AthleticNames.com redirects it back to tiptongue.com/fury and again and again.

Why cannot DNN be simply happy with the fact that the URL contains one of the aliases and just proceed with rendering the page?

How could one turn off the redirection mechanism?

Thanks,

--Nik
