HELP!

I REALLY need to be able to NOT allow users to change their passwords for a particular type of user on my portal.

Problem:  I need to have a single sign-on for a group of people (like people at a wedding) so they can all sign-on with the same user name and password.

But I can't have them changing the password!  This is like for a group photoshare from an event where people login with the event ID and event password.

How do I do this?

If all of your non-admin users need to be locked down, you could just remove the USER token from your skin, so that the users wouldn't have any way to get to their profile to change their password.  Otherwise, you could add some logic in the skin to remove that control only when the user is in a certain security role.  Do you know how to do something like that?  Does that sound like what you are wanting to do?

Yes, that sounds exactly like what I need to do.

Here's my scenario:

I don't have a user token in the skin.  The skin I use is empty by default.

So then, I give clients a login hyper link which takes them to a page that has the User Login core module in it.  So, what I really might need to do is remove the USER token from the core User Login module, right?

And no, I don't know how to do it.  I understand the idea, but I have no clue what file to alter to change the behavior of the User Login core module.

Thanks,
vollerworld

I think we've misunderstood each other a little bit.  So far as I understand, the only way that a user is generally able to change their password is through a link in the skin, which displays the user's name, typically next to the Logout link.  Do you have that link?  Is there some other way that your users would be able to get to their profile page to change their password?  Is there some way from the Login module to edit a user's profile?

If that is the only way to get there, you can edit your skin to just remove that link.  In the skin, that will either be represented by a token which looks like [USER] or by a control, which will look something like <dnn:USER id="dnnUser" runat="server" />.  If you just remove that, and then upload that cahgne over your current skin file, it should automatically take that out.  If it doesn't automatically take effect, you may have to click the "Parse Skin Package" link in the Admin Skins module.

Does that make sense?  Is that what you're dealing with?

I think I understood you.  Here's what I need to make clear:

1. My skin is actually BLANK (i.e. empty, without ANY images, tokens, or anything, absolutely blank, white)

2. Therefore, if I want to be able to login, I actually had to create a page (tab) and insert the User Login module onto it [then navigate to that page using the URL of that page].  Since the skin is blank (yes, it is totally empty), there is no other way to get to my  login page.

3. Yes, you can modify your account from the login module, primarily because once you login, the User Login module actually displays your username, which you can click on, and therefore modify your account.

All this thinking has led me to believe that I can actually HIDE the User Module to authenticated users, which might solve my problem.

Is the problem more clear now than before?  I know it's hard to visualize at first, but my skin actually is blank.

Thanks,
Voller
