I tried to set up a test site based on an ip address behind a natted firewall. this is on a 2003 server std 32 bit and sql 2005 std. We are trying to use an IP address (192.168.1.21), externally the ip is 66.16.16.100. Every time we try to log in from the outside at 66.16.16.100, the site is redirected to the alias, which is 192.168.1.21 and the site is not reachable.

Is there any way to stop the alias redirection?

P.S. other web site software operates fine.

Thank you.

Add the external IP address as an alias of the site.

I figured it out:, assuming your network is running dns-

You need a domain name such as dnn.abc.local. In dns you add an A record = dnn.abc.local for your internal ip. Add an A record = dnn.abc.local for your external ip. If you do this before you install your site then that is all. If you installed your site with a primary alias = your internal ip, then you add an aliias = dnn.abc.local.

I needed to make my localhost development visible outside and it is on DSL with a DHCP address. I used www.Dyndns.com  dynamic DNS to provide a DNS entry for my site. of course I had to add this portal alias to my development server.

My latest router has a client for Dynamic DNS which I haven't switched to yet
