Hi all,

I'm using godaddy as the host. All the files are on their servers. I can ge into my site(www.landstar-jemtransportation.com) but when I change the home page and press update it does not update the website. I have DOTNETNUKE for dummies (me/lol) but I don't see that issue addressed. Should I be changing something on the host site?

Confused in NJ........

Ok I think I figured out that I need to put the program On my hard drive so I d/l the zip file and ran it. I never saw it install if someone could help I would be thankful. If you think it would be better by email my email address is rbomba@verizon.net. I would take any help I can get. Maybe this is not as easy as your marketing says it is? How about a link to a help file? Anything from anybody?

1) It is never as simple as the marketing claims.

2) Search the forums for GoDaddy. There is ongoing thread on how best to install to this huge (i.e., no support) web hoster. It is almost as large as the one about hosting to the other mega (i.e., no support) web hoster, 1and1.com.

3) There is LOTS of info about install (and upgrade) issues in the forums. Unfortunately I've not found the online help in DNN very friendly to navigate, the documentation is no longer listed on the downloads page for the current version (probably because it is all so easy anyone with any smarts could use it- NOT!) and so one needs to buy a book or hunt about for the answer.

4) You should be able to search for much more complete answers, but to get you started (on your own machine, running Windows XP at least):

To Install:
- Install IIS 6 (Control panel | Add-Remove Programs | Windows Components)
- Unzip Install version of DNN from DNN's Downloads page to E:\Inetpub\wwwroot (or where ever) and use IIS Manager (in Control Panel Admin Tools)  to make that directory an application.
- Edit the Web.config file (specifically pay attention to SQLServer Connection strings and  machine key - search other posts for much more on this)
- Open web browser and go to site. It shoudl start the install process and it shoudl all just "work"

5) They have simplified it greatly. Check out:
http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Projects/UtilityInstaller/tabid/838/Default.aspx

Oh have you even gone to the Install It section of the forums at http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Community/Forums/tabid/795/forumid/107/scope/threads/Default.aspx? They have a couple posted stuck to the top with instructions...

Hi

I've found that installing DNN the first time is a nightmare! but perseverance pays of eventually. I find the easiest and quickest way for me to install DNN is to get DotNetNuke_04.04.01_Setup.zip and run it, very simple, then get the latest version of DNN and upgrade.

I don't know why 04.04.01 is the only version released with a setup file, cause this is so usefull.

Regards

Julian
