Hi,

I have setup a new DNN4.5.3 installation. Most parts seem to be working fine. I have  these problems with new user registration.

1. The Portal is setup for "VERIFY" mode. When a new user registers, a message is displayed stating that a Verification email is sent to the email address given in the registration and he/she should come back to Login with the Registration code.

2. As the Admin of the portal, I get a message about the new registration

3. The User is not getting any email from the system. So there is no way they can come back to login (as they don't have the Verification Code)

4. When I login as admin, I can see the new user record is created and it is waiting to be Authenticated.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

make sure, that SMTP server is configured correctly in host settings and does accept mails for external addresses.

Double check, that the administrator account specified in Site Settings has a valid email address.

Thanks a lot for your quick response!

I did check the SMTP server; it is correctly setup as mail.<mydomain>.com; and it is the same way I setup for several of my portals.

And is there any difference in sending mechansim used by DNN for sending mails to admin (from admin) and sending mails to users (from admin)? I AM getting notification emails as the admin of the portal; but the new user is not getting emails.

Any other possible causes?

I think what leupold is trying to check is that your mail server can relay to external email addresses. If you check your log file when sending emails to users (such as when an account is created or a password reminder) are you getting unable to relay error messages?

in this case check your mail server, if it is successfully configured to relay emails to external addresses.
