Hi,

I am trying to add a new User Profile field called "Office". I want to provide a drop down list similar to Country and Region lists.

I want to create two lists: (The word REgion in the following paragraphs is different from the DNN term REgion. In DNN, the word Region is used a s a generic term for a State or a Province)

1. USA Region (this will have about 10 entries: Northeast Region, Mid Atlantic Region, Southeast Region, Midwest Region, etc.)

2. Offices (this will have a list of Offices categorized under each USA Region)

When a user selects a value from the list for USA Region, I want the "Office" list to be populated dynamically with those Offices that belong to the USA REgion just selected by the user.

Currently similar functionality is provided in DNN for Country and Region: (only for USA and Canada).  When USA is selected as the Country, the REgion field is populated with the States of USA; when Canada is selected as the Country, the same REgion field is populated with "Provinces" of Canada.

I too wanted to accomplish similar functionality.

So, here is what I did:

1. Created a new list called "USA REgion" and entered about 10 values (Region 1, REgion 2, Region 3, etc.)

2. Created a new list called "Office" and selected the parent list as "USA REgion"; and selected a value within that [USA REgion:Region 1]  And I added few names of Cities as values (Offices under Region 1)

3. Created a new list called "Office" (again with the same name as above); but this time I selected like this:

    Parent List = USA REgion

    Parent Entry = USA REgion:REgion 2

Added values for Offices in REgion 2

4. I repeated these steps for all REgions (USA REgion: REgion 1 thru USA REgion: REgion 10)

======

Adding a new field in User Profile:

1. I added a new field called USA Region; selected the source as "USA REgion" and I am able to view all the entries I created under Host >> Lists >> USA REgion. This is working fine.

2. I created another field called "Office". Initially I set it up as "List" data type. When I go to User Profile page, I see BOTH lists: but the Office list is populated always with ALL the Offices of ALL the REgions. They are not working as "Linked Lists"

3. That means...

    - Selection of any value from USA REgion list does not have any bearing on the values populated in the Office list

    - The Office list shows ALL the Officees of ALL the Regions ALWAYS.

My Question:

1. What is the correct procedure to setup a pair of Linked Lists in DNN 4.5.3?

2. I read somewhere that DNN 4.5 allows creation of Lists with multiple levels deep (more than 2 levels); Is it true? If so, I don't see any options on the Host >> Lists page

Any help is greatly appreciated.
