open web.config with a text editor either using a remote console or download it using ftp, edit and re-upload.

i can edit web.config but i just don;t understand what you meant "adding a blank in a comment"? i don;t know what modification i should make to web.config?

comments are starting with <!--

just add a blank (" ") or modify a comment in any other way and save the file. The fact, that the file has changes forces the app to restart.

still have the same error after addding a blank comment to the web.config. anything to do with my host doesn't give me enough permission?

  • ask your host to make sure, ther are no ASP 1.1. applications and ASP 2.0 applications are mixed in a single App pool
  • ask your host to make sure, that serverside compression is turned of
  • which 3rd party modules are installed?
