Hi,

I have a live site that I had upgraded to the current version of DNN from a previous version.  All worked fine for about a month then today no one can log onto the site.  I did make sure that all important info was moved to the new config file and it is still the same as the back up. machine keys etc....

I had this problem with one of my sites that didn't have many users with upgrading to the prior version before this latest version and I just used information to reset passwords found  here: http://www.devprise.com/2006/09/26/how-to-reset-a-dnn-password-at-the-database. This was fine for his site as there was only 3 users. This problem occured within a week after the upgrade were as this live site took a month with the latest upgrade to have this problem.

With the live site I'm talking about above I have many users... all pretty old and not so computer literate.  I am concerned that if I change thier passwords for them so they can log on they will just not bother.

I also want to mention I have another site that was upgraded from a different version of the DNN (I can not remember which one) to the newest version and I have never had any problems with this site whatso ever.  This site started at a newer version of DNN than the one I'm currently having problems with.

I want to give as much info as possible because I believe it is a problem with upgrading from a specific version to the new version as apposed to upgrading from any version of DNN to the new version. I think it is the 4.3.7 version that is the offender but I can not be sure.  I wish I could remember which version this site was orignally created in so I could be more help.

If anyone has figured out how to get the logins working without resetting the host user in the db and then resetting all users using the DNN interface I would sure apprieciate any help you might have.

Thanks so much

Janet

make sure, that the MachineKey in your web.config has not been changed, compare it with a backup of previously working web.config

Very strange it has changed...I am absolutely possitive I made the changes at the time of the upgrade and it worked for over a month.  How could have the machine keys changed themselves in my config file, have I been hacked?

if the dotnetnuke installer shows up, e.g. because connection to database is lost, it might change the encryption key. this shall be solved in next version.
