Hi

I've been tweaking my website to try and back it faster, I have had some success, but wonder what the best Compression Setting to use under performance, Gzip or deflate?

Do each of them suit a certain type of site?  does anyone know of further details on DNN about this?

Cheers

Dan

Hello,

GZip is usually better unless you are getting a ton of traffic.  Have you checked out PageBlaster from www.snapsis.com ?

As a component I've been able to drop my page loads from as much as 24 seconds, down to 2-3 seconds.

If you're going to stick with the native performance tools I'd try Heavy Caching, and GZip.

Hi

Thanks for your help...

Yes, I'm trying the free version of the PageBlaster, and it does make a difference, do you have the full version?  what more does it offer?

I've made my settings to Heavy cashing and gzip.  I'm monitoring it on stayaliveforever.com, and its returning times of between 0-5-1.5s which I guess is ok.

However when I check it using the host-tracker.com tool its giving values of about 2+s.  Which is a little strange....

Cheers

Dan

Hi,

I'm using the free version, without any issue.  If you have any check out the forum on www.snapsis.com John is great and can help you with pretty much anything ( PB related or not ).  I think in the forum there is a comparison what the freeware version purchase version has.  StayAliveForEver ( good service ) I believe is hosted in the US and pings ( Get's ) from one location.  Host Tracker has a series of servers so you'll give some different numbers depending on load rates.

Another good application to help with the load / unload issue is DNN Heartbeat.  You should be able to find it by a quick google, I can't remember the download site off the top of my head.

Hi Dan,

The main difference with the PageBlaster DNN Module (paid version)  is the ability to configure each dynamic page seperatly for cache-time, etc.  It also allows you to define a virtual path to the cached page so that you can make friendly page names.

One thing to keep in mind when using PageBlaster caching is that if you want to measure speed from an outside source you need to run the test more than once.  This is because PageBlaster caches each type of user agent seperately and the first test will be needed to put the page in cache.  Follow on requests will then be pulled from cache.

I also use host-tracker.com to keep my site alive.

Here are my recommendations on performance settings:
