How do I get a portal to properly display a favIcon? right now I have the icons in the root directory and have this on my skin file...
<link rel="shortcut icon" href="favicon.ico" >
but all I get is the explorer icon...
Whats going on?

Thanks for the advice

Mark

I honestly don't know about the skin file, but I do know that when I put my icon file in my root directory of my website, I kept thinking I was doing it wrong. So, I blew it off for a little while and put it at the bottom of my to do list. About a week later I noticed that the favicon showed up. I looked on other people's computers in the office and they could not see it yet. Then a few days later everybody could see it. It was very weird I cannot explain it, but that might be what is happening to you.

After you update your favicon you will most likely need to clear your browser cache before the change will be visible.

Or use CTRL + F5 to refresh the page.

I have also found that it can take several days for the favicon in the root folder to change. Just be patient and it will be a little surprise when it finally appears. :)

What I find interesting is that it works immediately in Firefox, but IE is very weird in its favicon interpretation.

I do have a WP blog that has a favicon and it has been working correctly in IE for over a year. But I hear all these others in different forums saying that their favicon comes and goes in IE.

At first I put the favicon in my skin path and when I got no change after a day, I moved it to the portal root and updated the href to include the fully qualified URL.

I guess I will wait a few days to see if it finally shows up.
