Hello:

I just installed DNN for one of my sites, and included blogs (which dont work), forums, wiki, and a few other modules. I am also using the default skin, as this site is a trial run to see whether or not I will use DNN for my CMS.

That said, there is quite a large concern with the overall performance of the site using DNN. Whenever I try to load up my site, it takes a long time for the initial page to load, and doing anything seems to go slowly as well - and I have tried this on both a cable/broadband connection and a T1. I was wondering if there was anything that I could do to improve my site's performance, as I will not be able to stay with this CMS solution if this is the performance I will have. Keep in mind that I have to plan the site so that it will run fairly well for all my dialup users, even though I myself have broadband. My dialup users complain that sometimes the initial load takes as long as 3-5 minutes, which is ridiculous. Any help in how I could improve the performance of my site would be greatly appreciated.

Get more users.  Seriously.  ASP.NET pages are cached, but only for a specific period.  Once the page is out of cache, it needs to be recompiled before it is cached and served.  If the page is requested often enough, it will stay cached.

Also look at using PageBlaster.

To expand a bit on the previous posts comments.

1.) Use a service such as http://www.host-tracker.com to keep your website alive, this will reduce the inital load time issue, if not remove it.  (Free!)
2.) Setup your site to use heavy caching and also turn on the whitespace filter
3.) If you are really concerned with streamlined code and fast loads, look at the pageblaster module from Snapsis.  I think John has one of the fastest sites out there (http://www.snapsis.com)
4.) Optimize the skin to reduce objects
5.) Potentially consider moving away from the built in menu module that has a fair amount of JS overhead.
