I've created a portal based on the default dnn template but after portal creation the browser windows goes to a non existent URL rather then to my portal.  Because of this I go back and reload the default.aspx in the browser and can see that my portal exists.  My question is this, how do I access a portal with a URL?  My portal alias is Portals\1 so I thought I could do something like this:

http://rpmamd3500/dcsportals/default.aspx?portal=Portals/1

I can't find anything anwhere that states the URL syntax I should you to get to my new portal.  I'm sure I haven't looked hard enough but I can't get the searching to work on this forum I always get a timeout.  Any help or direction that could point me to where I can see the URL formats expected to access portals and pages on portals would be greatly appreciated.

I think I know that I can get access to a page by using the tabid query paramter like this:

http://rpmamd3500/dcsportals/default.aspx?tabid=1

but I can't figure out how to "set the active portal" for lack of a better term.

First, forward slash or backslash in an alias will direct you down another level.  If that's not your intent, it shouldn't be in the alias.

Parent portals have their own URL, as in:

www.sample1.com
www.sample2.com

Child portals, which I suspect yours is, are found under the parent and accessed as a subdirectory of the parent.  As in:

www.sample.com/portal1
www.sample.com/portal2

If your portal is truly in a subdirectory as you show in the alias, it would be at:

http://rpmamd3500/dcsportals/Portals/1/default.aspx

Thanks for the reply Jeff.  I'm still missing something though.  The parent URLs example you showed above www.sampl1.com and www.sample2.com seem to be server names in a URL.  For example http://www.samp1.com would provide access to a server named www.samp1.com who's IP address is retrieved from a DNS server; so I'm not sure how DNN would intercept this URL request and run in through the DNN framework.  Can you give help me by providing some examples of the URLS?

From the DNN interface I create a new parent portal, with an alias of "TestPortal" and right after I hit the "Create Portal" link the brower attempts to take me to the following URL which fails to load:

http://rpmamd3500/dcsportals/Host/Portals/tabid/17/ctl/Signup/mid/321/portalid/0/Default.aspx

Although this URL fails to load it makes sense to me because it is calling Default.aspx which is how I could imagine the URL information being passed to the DNN framework.

From this URL I believe I know what the "tabid" does but I have no clue about the "mid/321" and I believed I new what the "protalid/0" did ( I thought it would route my request to the proper portal but this doesn't seem to be the case.)

Again if you can give me some specific URLs that should access different portals on the same DNN server I'd appreicate that very much.

I too have set up a new parent portal for www.noahwallace.com, however, it goes to a default park page. How do I get www.noahwallace.com to go to the dnn site?
