We are leveraging dnn for a members' portal site. In our case however, 'member' means company with multiple employees.

We were hoping to be able to have a role for each of our 500+ member companies and then in several cases a child role of sorts. So for example, we had roles Member1Role - Member500Role and then had roles of say Member1bRole and so on scattered about.

For several days during some routine page maintenance, the order of the pages would be completely shuffled with no identifiable pattern. Here's the kicker, in the database the parent - child relationship was in tact. However, the menus and the pages page under the admin tab were totally screwed up.

I was able to see that the level and taborder were out of whack. I had to fix all this via sql and then everything was ok with the order of the pages and links, but the problem kept coming back.

I looked in the eventlog table and saw that the errors were always coming when the DotNetNuke.Security.Permissions.TabPermissionController.GetTabPermissionsCollectionByTabID(Int32 TabID, Int32 PortalId) method was being called.

We decided to rethink how we organized our roles and by changing to a product based system of roles, we have reduced the number to about 40 and haven't had a problem since.

Thanks for any feedback on this.

What version of DNN were you running? I was working on a project earlier this year and last year that had a few thousand roles, DNN seemed to handle it alright, though loading pages that listed all the roles was a pain :)
