I am also having trouble adding a new portal.  My portal is not a child portal, it is a parent portal, but I receive the same error message 'Error creating Profile Definitions'.

Hello, I am in the same situation. About one year ago I setup the portal with the version of the moment (abour 4.0.3 i think!), I created some child portals without a problem. About 6 months ago I did an update, without a problem, however I did not test everything at that moment. Now I tried to create a child or sub portal and I get the same problem!! Please support for this matter!!

Did you read the next couple posts after the one you are quoting?

I did a Google search and found another forum on this site which fixed my problem.  It turns out that you can only choose the DotNetNuke Template during the creation of your new portal, (for me is was a child and I have not tried to create another parent), and not any of the other options.  Once I choose the correct template, the creation of the child portal went smoothly.

Holy unrelated error message... batman.

I can confirm that choosing the DotNetNuke template is what fixed my error message.  I was previously selecting the Small Business template.

The problem I specifically was having was fixed by choosing the DotNetNuke template.  That is all I have as far as support for you.
