I'm helping a friend out with their DNN site but their hosting company aren't that great: their web server was compromised and every single DNN file was infected with malicious IFRAME injection (yes - even the graphics files!). Fortunately they had a backup, but when this was restored all was not quite well - all the labels in the administration system have disappeared.

I'm figuring it's a language resource issue but apart from that I don't know what's the best way to fix this. As well as the top control panel, all the labels for the skin's menus have gone along with lots of stuff in the host settings, page editing etc etc. so it makes administering the site next to impossible.

Anyone got a clue what to do about this?

Thanks,

Pete

you could just copy files from the same dnn version to the live site (you can find out what version you are running in Host > HostSettings (top menu))

I suggest to re-unzip the installation files

Well, they've already tried reinstalling DNN over the broken portal but with no joy. If we can get it working enough to be able to export the portal and content as a site template we should be able bring this over to a completely fresh DNN installation - but even this is proving problematic at the moment

Are the missing labels held in the database or in resource files?
