look for the size of the translaction log file - if it is small (few mb), you successfully truncated it.

I can't find it in my notes, but isn't there a simple SQL statement one could execute in the SQl window to show the size of the log and db?

You can also see what the recovery mode on your database is.  if it's set to simple then there is less logging that is done on your website. Of course, I don't know what sort of disaster recovery you are requiring and if you require point in time recovery.   If you do, then consider writing some T-SQL that will perform regular transaction log backups that will truncate the transaction log.  This will keep your working set small yet sill give you a point in time recovery that you may require.   You can read about this more in Books Online.

From Enterprise Manager/SQL Server management Studio, right click the database in question, Select: Tasks>Back Up (on the General Tab), change the Backup type from 'Full' to 'Transaction Log', The 'truncate transaction log' should be selected by default in the options tab. Execute, that's it.

However, you should have your DB on some sort of back-up schedule/plan (daily/bi-daily/hourly, depending on your needs), and a transaction log back-up should be part of it.
