I have a site using dot net nuke, and we want to have it set up for Multilanguage. We want to be able to copy our original site (in English) multiple times, so the people that we have translating out site can just go in and translate that specific language with out affecting the other language sites.

so when its all done, we are going have a welcome page that has a "language selector" and all I need to do is set up, so that when you select the language its just a direct copy of our original English page, so the translators can go to town on doing what they do.

Thanks

in theory you could export the portal, however, not all modules support that, and there are some unresolved issues even with supported modules (eg. links to fileid's, tabid's will be broken after you import the template in a different portal)

The only robust way to support your workprocess would be to create a seperate DNN instance for every language. All you'd need to do is to clone your site completely..

So how would I go about cloning the site completely?

Thanks for your input!

  • add all necessary http aliases prior to doing anything else
  • copy the db
  • copy the application
  • make changes to webconfigs, so all copies access their own db
  • browse to the cloned sites

NB: i only gave this solution because the type of question you had. I would very much like to discourage you from going this path, because this will make your sites just very very big monster to maintain. Depending on the contents of your site, you might be helped with specific multilingual modules, some of which you can find on my site (www.apollo-software.nl), some of which on Locopons site (http://dnn.tiendaboliviana.com/)
