i'm into building a website now, & using DotNetNuke is a suggested option, but b4 i start i need some answers about making the site online,  so i can start working with no worries about any surprises later, especially that it will be my first site to be published

after uploading the site online:

- can i change anything on the site? skins, code, modules, .... ??

- how i'm going to change anything on the site, i mean how am i going to open the project & make the needed adjustments??

about the host:

- how should i choose the host? i mean wht should it support?

- should it be specialized for dnn? or it's just an advantage?

- is there any issue i should keep in mind while choosing the host?

in short, I KNOW NOTHING about wht happens after finish building a site, any help is appreciated :)

thnx in advance

you always select Skins and Modules via UI as well as editing all content and settings. If you develop a new module or skin you package it and install the package on the life site. You should avoid developing on the live site directly.

The host is the system administrator for the overall installation, especially in multi-portal installations. It shall have a strong password for security reasons.

Using DNN to build a website is an excellent choice for people new at website building.

There are many reasons for this:

  1. You can purchase pre-built skins to handle the visual part of the site for you. There are thousands (yes 1,000's) of skins available for purchase at www.snowcovered.com or at the DNN marketplace here. You can also check out Nina's free skins at http://www.dnnskins.com/home.aspx
  2. If you can point and click with a mouse and type on a keyboard you can add/delete/edit web pages, change all content on the site, add modules, etc. No programming knowledge needed
  3. While being easy to use DNN is also very powerful.
  4. Buy the book - you'll be happy you did. It's also much quicker than searching the forums.

As far as hosting goes my general rule of thumb is if you are an average web developer or better you can get by with some of the less expensive hosting providers as you will not need that much support. If you are new and learning spend the extra money ($20 per month) for a hosting provider who specializes in DNN and will provide the support you need.

Hope this helps

Greg
