Okay,

I spent all night trying to get my site up and running and I finally did, or so I thought.

  1. I setup my Website in IIS called it QWERTYtech (go figure).
  2. After doing so, I setup a host header called qwertytech.no-ip.biz .
  3. Next I made sure that I had read capabilities, which I did.
  4. I then checked my ASP.NET version to make sure it was set to 20.
  5. I then added Front Page Extensions to the site just as a precaution.
  6. I then used the following link in IE7 to setup the DNN http://localhost/qwertytech/install/install.aspx?mode=install
  7. Everything setup just great.  Now when i try to go to my url http://qwertytech.no-ip.biz I get an underconstruction page.  I didn't get this whenever I was doing all of this on my server.

What am I doing wrong?

  • I would skip FrontPage Extensions, I got too many troubles with them, especially regarding permissions set
  • Did you make sure, "Network Service" has full permission for the installation directory
  • Did yu add default.aspx as default document?
  • did you assign an app pool, that is not used by an ASP.Net 1.1 app?

So working directly on the server, the site loads fine but when accessing the site from another machine on the network or from a location outside the network it redirects to the under construction url?

First of all, i totally agree: delete FrontPage Extensions at all, they normally will cause some strange things happen....

Your problem can be fixed pretty easily:
- log in as host
- go to HOST - PORTALS
- click the edit-button next to your portal
- scroll down and add the needed so called portal aliases

There should allready be an entry: LOCALHOST, fine

Add: www.......... for accessing it from outside the world (as long your router can forward Port 80 to your host and that this DNS-Entry is known outside and will be forwarded to you IP-Address.

Add: <hostname> which is the name of the server itself in your local Network, then you can access it also from within your LAN

Alright everyone,

I just logged into my server and tried to go to http://qwertytech.no-ip.biz and I got the following error:

Unhandled Error

Error Details

File
Error   Failed to update database "C:\INETPUB\QWERTYTECH2\APP_DATA\DATABASE.MDF" because the database is read-only.

  If I go to http://localhost/QWERTYtech , I get nothing.

Here is what my server is running:  Windows Server 2003 SP2, SQL Express 2005, and DNN 4.5.5 & 4.6.2 .

Can anyone help me set this up from scratch???  I would greatly appreciate it.

The last time I installed it, I used http://localhost/QWERTYtech/Install/install.aspx?mode=install and used the installer to walk me through it.

Thanks,

      QWERTYtech
