Hi All,

Its been 3 months now since I have been using dotnetnuke and  I must say it is pretty good. It makes creating and maintaining a website much more easy.

However, I have experimented a lot with dotnetnuke and as a result  I have run into some technical issues.  I was playing around with the  database and changed the 'admin' and 'host'  default userID and profileID values. I set those values to some random number. When I tried to login, I got an XML error ,

'>' is an unexpected token. The expected token is '='. Line 1, position 11.

Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.

Exception Details: System.Xml.XmlException: '>' is an unexpected token. The expected token is '='. Line 1, position 11.

Source Error:

An unhandled exception was generated during the execution of the current web request. Information regarding the origin and location of the exception can be identified using the exception stack trace below.

System.Web.SyncEventExecutionStep.System.Web.HttpApplication.IExecutionStep.Execute() +138
System.Web.HttpApplication.ExecuteStep(IExecutionStep step, Boolean& completedSynchronously) +65

As a result, I set the admin n host USERID and PROFILEID values back to the original default values but I still keep getting this error.

Could anyone give some inputs as why did this happen and is there a solution to this??

Thank You

Melrine

As you have found out, changing the values directly in the database is a very dangerous thing to do unless you really know what you're doing.

To fix your problem, you have one of two options.  First, you somehow figure out what the values of the those fields was and restore them.  The UseId should be 1 and 2 respectively.  I am not sure about the profile Id, but I would imagine that would be the same.

The other option is to restore the database to a time prior to this data change.

I am curious...  What prompted you to change these values?

Well....I did restore the vlaues back to the default values however it still kept giving the error. Infact, I figured that a change in the Profile_id  from the profile table caused this error.

Replying to your question....my company identifies its users by a profile_id and all data are linked to users via this profile_id. So while importing my users, I had to import the profile_id values as they were ,from the existing tables. Some of my users had profileids 1 and 2 which are the default values for host and admin. Hence the change.

However...is there a way to authenticate users via a single user ID...i.e. a single -sign on?

Regards

Melrine
