Hi

I've made several pages in my DotNetNuke portal. Now, I need to copy those pages, including the modules on that page. I am running DNN 4.6.2.

I clicked on the "copy page" button. I've filled in the settings and the page is copied. When I look at the new page (the one I made by copying my first page), I notice that the modules have cleared their settings and reverted to their default values. Since the settings of these modules are actually the main thing I want to copy, that quite sucks. :-(

I took another look at the settings underneath "Copy Page" and noticed that there are 3 possibilities (radiobuttons) for copying modules: new, copy and reference. New" and "reference" are available, but I have not yet been able to select "copy", it is always disabled for some reason.

I've tried searching on the internet, but all I can find is information about earlier version, and apparantly the interface has changed since then. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thank in advance
Varcour

Itt depends on the module.

Some settings are stored related to the module (ModuleSettings), some to the instance of the current page (TabSettings). It is up to the module developer to choose what is best for his modules. Unfortunately only modulesettings are recognized during copy or reference, and it is currently not possible to change this behaviour without breaking every module.

"Copy" for modules inside "Copy page" is only avaiable to modules that implement  the IPortable interface. This interface handles import and export of modules, and it is an optional interface.

Regarding the UserDefinedTable module, I added a new option for the next release which allows to copy the tabsettings to modulesettings. It works well in tests, though it is still untestet in a productive environment. If it runs all tests and remains still cool, it might be a possible enhancement also for the core.

I tried this with modules that DO implement the IPortable interface and it works like a charm.

The only problem is that most of these modules do not retain their settings, and I fear because they don't use the Settings tab but created one of their own.

So basically, nothing is gonna save me from this pain of reconfiguring the instances? :-( A workaround would be nice, but obviously I should get my hopes up.

Thanks for the explanation. Even though it's bad news, at least I know where I stand now.
