4.8.0: the bug is still here. :( After several hours file permissions had been reset.

I am having the same problem in 4.7. File permissions are resetting to Admin only.

Was this bug introduced in 4.7? I have 2 sites, that I am aware of, in serious trouble both of which were upgraded to 4.7.

WARNING

From other posts I had read I tried deleting the contents of the Files table. This made matters worse. All my Links failed. The Url in the Links table points to "FileID=7681" where 7681 was the original FileID in the Files table. By deleting the Files table content and re syncing the new FileID is different and therefore the linked file is no lnger found

It looks as if the entries in the FolderPermissions are being dropped. Adding View permission (All Users) for a folder adds 3 entries in the FolderPermissions table:

RoleID   |  Permission Name  |  PermissionID

-1   |   View Folder   |   5

53   |   View Folder   |   5

53   |   Write to Folder   |   6

This is a very serious problem. Each time the permissions are reset to Admin only ALL links on my site also reset. For example; last night I repaired links and the Links table showed a URL for a file as FileID=9010. This morning the link causes an exception:

ActiveTabID: 344
ActiveTabName: Home
RawURL: /LinkClick.aspx?fileticket=uf%2bH%2fNWKQ9U%3d&tabid=344&mid=2755&language=en-GB

When I edit the link it no longer shows the correct file name. If I then look for the file in the files table I discover the FileID has changed to 9541.

Sebastian,

Can you be more specific about the "Special" charachters that may cause problems? Would _ (underscore) and & (and symbol) be included in your list? Does this apply to both file names AND folder names?

Sounds a lot like one of two issues I demonstrated in a video clip and sent  to Sebastian  a while back. I don't know if it was ever viewed.

There is definitiely a file system problem in DNN. Files are made invisible and permissions lost for no apparent reason. Logos, bullet graphics, and entire folders full of files simply vanish until manually re-applied or the file manager is manually re-synced and then the missing items re-applied. I don't use odd characters in file and folder names and I also check and recheck file permissions a lot because of this. I even have some folders that simply refuse to show up no matter how many times I sync.

There is one fix related to file sync in 4.8 but I'm not really sure that it has anything to do with the issue.

Rob
