Hi,

I've created a role and added a user to that role. I then gave the role edit permissions to a page. When logged in as the user and that page is accessed, the 'control panel' at the top is visible, but the 'Files' button is disabled.

So the question is can a user or role be given permission to manage the files in a portal? So that they can manage the files like an Admin could?

Thanks,

Paul

no, file manager is currently for admins only. there might be 3rd party solutions to grant file management to other users.

Ordinarily, if you didn't assign the user the Admin role, you don't want to grant the User that far ranging capability anyway.

If you install the Repository module (which is a basic DNN module), regular Users can be granted permissions to upload/download/edit/view specific files.

It's another glaring hole in the DNN content management process that seems to get nowhere... I had another Gemini ticket that touched on this rejected just yesterday in fact.

You will either have to restrict your content creation procedures to modules that allow the editor to also delete content, and it's surprising how many don't, or you can use one of the third party solutions as Sebastian suggested.

And there are but three:

  1. TK Filemanager - cheap and would be great if it worked, but too buggy and the developer is awol.
  2. Adverageous Access Manager - pricey, not pretty, not quite ready yet, but very promising
  3. Speerio File Manager - great looks, would also be great if it worked, and another surprisingly awol developer

I've spent plenty of time on the issue myself, never found a great solution, and really, it should be dealt with in the core.

If any module developers are looking for a project - Just make the core file manager work as a module - That's what the TK Filemanager is, if only the guy would sort it out.

Regards
Rob
