Hello. Is it possible to enable an option for public users, at the time they register to let DNN generate a password for them? I know it is possible for an admin/host to create a user and auto generate the password. But i would like the users to use this option when they register and let DNN auto generate a password for them. Thanks!

currently that is not possible.

Can you provide some more info as to why you want to do that? You should also consider adding this as an enhancement at http://support.dotnetnuke.com

Thanks for your reply Erik.

At the moment i am using a Private membership. After a user registers himself he will receive an email containing the username/password of the portal, this combination is what he filled in when he registered. After accepting the user by authorizing him, you would not know if his emailaddress given is correct or not, since he will prolly remember the username/password he filled in. This way he could have entered a fake emailaddress when he registered.

If the Portal would generate a password, this would mean the user needs to enter a valid emailaddress to login, this way you will know for sure that the user is not a bot/script etc.

Also the use of a security code like the image verification at http://alliancerankings.com/forum/search.php would prevent that bots/scripts register many times to the portal. This option included in DotNetNuke 4.6.2?

I use the DataSprings.com Dynamic Registration module for this very feature.  In may case, I also need to generate a friendly username that is First Name + Last Initial.  The module does both for me.  I've been using it for well over a year and processed over 9,000 registrations with it.  It works great.
