I am entering my cable modem's SMTP server name that is also used with Outlook astmy Outgoing SMTP server name.

But I get this error when I click the link "Test" within the SMTP server Settings window??

Error: Host Settings is currently unavailable.

It looks to me as if the e-mail address isnt correctly formatted "The specified string is not in the form required for an e-mail address"
You should check your Host Settings e-mail address

I'm having similar problem (but on subject):

DotNetNuke.Services.Exceptions.ModuleLoadException: The specified string is not in the form required for a subject. ---> System.ArgumentException: The specified string is not in the form required for a subject. at System.Net.Mail.Message.set_Subject(String value) at System.Net.Mail.MailMessage.set_Subject(String value) at DotNetNuke.Services.Mail.Mail.SendMail(String MailFrom, String MailTo, String Cc, String Bcc, MailPriority Priority, String Subject, MailFormat BodyFormat, Encoding BodyEncoding, String Body, String Attachment, String SMTPServer, String SMTPAuthentication, String SMTPUsername, String SMTPPassword) at DotNetNuke.Services.Mail.Mail.SendMail(String MailFrom, String MailTo, String Bcc, String Subject, String Body, String Attachment, String BodyType, String SMTPServer, String SMTPAuthentication, String SMTPUsername, String SMTPPassword) at DotNetNuke.Modules.Admin.Security.SecurityRoles.SendNotification(Int32 UserId, Int32 RoleId, String Action) at DotNetNuke.Modules.Admin.Security.SecurityRoles.grdUserRoles_Delete(Object sender, DataGridCommandEventArgs e) --- End of inner exception stack trace ---

... and the Emal isn't sent. My guess is that this has something to do with localization and should be related with the language pack I'm using (Portuguese PT-PT). If I'm using the native English language, it works fne. I've checked the translations made in the Portuguese package but everything looks fine to me.

Any hints would be apreciated

Found it! It was a problem with the language pack. The texts used for the subject's email ("EMAIL_ROLE_ASSIGNMENT_SUBJECT","EMAIL_ROLE_UNASSIGNMENT_SUBJECT", etc.) had extra carriage return codes at the end. Changed that through the Language Editor and solved the problem.

Regarding your problem dlykins, the SMTP test email should be sent to the Host's email set at the Host Settings page. Check if it's a valid email. Emails like suport@localhost::1488 will fail with the error you reported
