Sorry for the bad form of asking multiple questions in one post, but I am new to DNN and am trying to see if it will fit a set of requirements I have for a new project.  I have been reading all of the documentation and even picked up the WROX book, but I still have a few questions.
  1. Is it possible to setup permissions with a more fine grained approach?  For example, I want to have user A be able to add a link to a links module on page 1, but not on page 2.  In otherwords, a user could manipulate content in one area of the site that he manages, but not in another area of the site.

  2. Along the same lines of permission settings, is it possible to have an admin level user that can make changes to page structure etc. be able to browse the site like a general registered user ... i.e. wtihout the control panel etc?  What I am getting at is that it appears that once a user logs in on an admin type account, that user no longer gets a "normal" view of the web site.  Is this correct?

  3. Is there any workflow / approval process for content changes in the web site?  For example, user A adds a new link to a module, but that link needs to be approved my a certain admin user before it is made visible?

  4. Can the user registration profile be customized?  I have found where I can turn on or off the predefined fields, but what about adding a new custom field?  Is this possible?

  5. I have been reading on skinning and can see how pages and containers can be skinned.  What about the login screen ... is it just a standard module that can be skinned and customized?
I appreciate the help in getting up to speed.

Thanks

Jeff,

I can answer some but not all of these.

  1. Permissions can be set finer than you are asking for, since they are set on a per module basis. So a User a can edit permissions on one module of the page, but not on another module.
  2. You can create a role, put users in it, and give that role edit permissions on the individual pages. This will allow the users access to the control panel for that page. In the end many page changes are enabled by the Control Panel (such as adding new modules), therefore access is needed. If they swap to Preview, much of the page formatting will disappear, but the control panel will be present on the pages you have given them edit permissions to. Also I think they would have to select Preview every time they logged on.
  3. I don't think this is in the current Link module, but I'm sure there will be one out there somewhere. I tend to check this site for ideas - http://www.cathal.co.uk/Default.aspx?tabid=80
  4. I'm sure it can, but I've never tried.
  5. You can create your own login page, then assign it through Admin/Site Settings/Advanced Settings/Page Management.

Cheers
Roger
