Hi,

is there some kind of test how many portals one server can handle?
Of course this is connected with hardware but any input will be great.
I am also interested in how many portals one DNN instance can handle and what is recommendation.

My plan is that on:

- 2x Opteron 2216
- 2 x 2 x 2,4 GHz
- 8 GB

I place up to 250 DNN portals but if there are some experiences that this type of server can not handle 250 (not very visited) portals or can handle more it will be perfect.

I do not expect that portal databases will be big (maybe up to 200Mb per site) so there are options to go with:

- SQL Server 2005 Express
- SQL Server 2005 Wrokgroup
- SQL Server 2005 Standard

Of course, price makes huge difference.
What is your biggest implementation? How many portals you have, how many pages, how big is your database, how many visitors?

Hope that someone can help.

Thanks,
Oliver

Oliver,

Performance/Capacity planning for a DotNetNuke installation of this caliber is soemthing that is very hard to do as a lot of it is driven by the traffic levels of each respective individual site.

I do know there are people here with large installations, hopefully some of them will be able to give you an idea of what they are getting with their setups.  Just be sure to be aware of the complications/risks of using a single DNN install with multiple portals.

Hi Mitch,

thanks for answer.
I am aware that it is hard to say something about configuration without really knowing about usage of DNN.

I hope that someone with big installation will be able to share experience.

For my project I was planning to split all sites on max. 50 per DNN installation. Do you think is this ok?

Regards,
Oliver
