I'm using DNN 4.0.2 and I notice that if you create a role that will allow a user to view & edit a particular page, that user can also create new child pages to that page.

Is there any way of preventing this?

At present, those editing concepts are built fairly deep into DNN.  We are ( even now ) looking at more granular permssions models, but that is a ways off.  So to answer your question... a Page Editor can create additional pages BELOW the current page in the menu hierarchy.  If you want to restrict this ability, you have to remove the ( Page or Portal )Admin access.

if the user don't need to move module and change module settings, just grant edit on module level.
